As you might be familiar with WW2, the war was between
THE ALLIES & THE AXIS

Axis — Comprised of Imperialistic Japan, Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy

Allies — Consisted of the U.S., the U.K. & FRANCE

Despite having strained relations with the USSR ( the soviet union ), allied nations further formed an alliance with The soviets since it was essential to secure the defeat of Germany.

While the immediate surrender of Japan after World War II ended in 1945, the conflict led to a period of Allied Powers occupation, primarily by the U.S.

Simply put, Each Axial nation was occupied by the victorious nations.

Japan was under military occupation almost entirely by U.S. forces and was forced to a constitutional change.

As an exception, Italy was able to avoid occupation in 1945.
